In this guide
Singapore doesn't shut down when the sun disappears.
In some parts of the city, that's when it finally gets interesting.
The heat becomes less aggressive, Marina Bay lights up, the Supertrees come alive, the Singapore River feels completely different and even the zoo has an entire attraction built around being awake after dark.
We're Wandoras, a Singapore-based travel company, and if you're trying to decide what to do in Singapore tonight, these are the experiences we'd actually consider.
If you only have one night in Singapore
Before giving you fifteen choices, here's the shortcut.
For a first-time visitor with one free evening, we'd concentrate on: Merlion & Marina Bay -> Singapore River Cruise -> Spectra -> Gardens by the Bay -> Garden Rhapsody -> late dinner.
Those places fit naturally together and give you a very good introduction to Singapore after dark.
If you have multiple evenings, dedicate another one to Night Safari and another to Sentosa.
1. See Marina Bay after dark
If you've already visited Marina Bay during the day, go back.
Seriously.
Marina Bay after sunset feels different enough to justify seeing it twice.
Marina Bay Sands lights up, the financial district becomes part of the backdrop and the waterfront is considerably more pleasant to walk once you're no longer negotiating with the afternoon sun.
Start around the Merlion side and walk along the waterfront.
And don't obsess over finding the exact spot where everybody on Instagram took the same photograph. The entire waterfront is the view.
2. Take a Singapore River Cruise at night
This is one of our favourite ways to transition from afternoon sightseeing into the evening.
The Singapore River takes you past historic quays before opening towards the modern Marina Bay skyline.
During daylight, you notice the buildings. At night, you notice the city.
The reflections on the water, illuminated bridges and skyline make the evening cruise particularly worthwhile.
It's also around 40 minutes of sitting down. After an entire day exploring Singapore on foot, that becomes a feature rather than a footnote.
Wandoras tip: Try to fit the cruise into a wider evening around Marina Bay rather than travelling into the area solely for the cruise.
3. Watch Spectra
Outside Marina Bay Sands you'll find Spectra, the free nightly light and water show.
It's easy to incorporate into an evening around Marina Bay because you don't need to purchase another ticket or commit several hours.
The show combines fountains, projections, lighting and music along the waterfront.
Our advice is simply to arrive with enough time to get into position.
Don't be the person running towards the waterfront while the final song is playing.
Check the current Marina Bay Sands performance schedule on the day of your visit, particularly around special events.
4. Watch the Supertrees come alive at Garden Rhapsody

If you're choosing between seeing the Supertrees during the day and after dark, we'd choose after dark.
Ideally, do both.
Every evening, Supertree Grove becomes the setting for Garden Rhapsody, Gardens by the Bay's free light and music show.
The current regular showtimes are 7:45pm and 8:45pm, although schedules and programmes can change.
Get there slightly early, find somewhere comfortable and look up.
Yes, you can film it. But perhaps don't experience the entire thing through a six-inch rectangle.
5. Explore Gardens by the Bay before the show
Don't arrive at Gardens by the Bay at 8:42pm solely for Garden Rhapsody.
If you have the time, make an evening of it.
Visit Cloud Forest and Flower Dome earlier, explore the outdoor gardens and then finish at Supertree Grove after sunset.
The conservatories and outdoor areas are very different experiences, so don't assume seeing one means you've 'done' Gardens by the Bay.
6. Do Marina Bay, the River Cruise and Gardens together
This is the route we'd recommend if you're short on time.
The attractions work well together geographically and, more importantly, their evening timings can fit into one itinerary.
It's also the thinking behind our own Starry Night Singapore experience.
The evening combines: Merlion Park -> Singapore River Cruise -> Spectra at Marina Bay Sands -> Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay -> food market.
Explore Starry Night Singapore
If you prefer exploring independently, use that sequence as a rough route and build your own evening around it.
7. Visit Night Safari
This one deserves an entire evening.
Night Safari at Mandai is dedicated to nocturnal wildlife rather than simply being a daytime zoo that happens to stay open late.
The experience combines the Safari Adventure Tram with several walking trails.
Do both.
We've seen visitors assume the tram is the attraction and leave afterwards, but the walking trails are a substantial part of the experience.
Allow roughly three hours if you want to explore without turning wildlife viewing into competitive speed-walking.
And remember that Mandai isn't in central Singapore. Travel time matters.

8. Spend an evening on Sentosa
Sentosa isn't only a daytime destination.
If you've spent the day there, consider staying into the evening rather than joining the mass migration back towards the city at 5pm.
Have dinner, walk around, enjoy the island after dark and add an evening attraction depending on what's operating during your visit.
This also works if you don't want to spend the entire day on Sentosa.
You can arrive later, take the cable car and build an evening around the island.
9. Ride the Singapore Cable Car around sunset
Timing this well makes a big difference.
Ride too early and you get daytime views. Ride later and the harbour and Sentosa begin lighting up beneath you.
The cable car isn't the cheapest way to get from A to B. That's because transportation isn't really the point.
You're paying for the journey itself.
Pair it with a Sentosa evening rather than travelling all the way there, riding the cable car and immediately travelling home.
10. Eat satay at Lau Pa Sat
At some point, this list needs to involve food.
Lau Pa Sat sits right in Singapore's CBD and is particularly atmospheric in the evening.
The famous Satay Street operates outside the main hawker centre when the street transforms into an outdoor dining area.
Is Lau Pa Sat a secret local discovery nobody has heard about? Absolutely not.
Is sitting outside surrounded by skyscrapers while eating satay still an enjoyable Singapore evening? Absolutely.
It also fits very conveniently after an evening around Marina Bay.
11. Walk through Clarke Quay and the Singapore River
If you aren't ready to go back to the hotel after your river cruise, explore the quays on foot.
Clarke Quay and the surrounding Singapore River area contain restaurants, bars and nightlife, but you don't have to be drinking to enjoy walking along the river.
If you're looking for a livelier evening after sightseeing, this is one of the obvious places to continue.
12. Have dinner in Chinatown

Chinatown doesn't disappear once its daytime sightseeing ends.
Come for dinner, walk around the surrounding streets and combine it with the Singapore River or Marina Bay depending on your itinerary.
It's particularly useful if you've spent the afternoon elsewhere and still want to experience one of Singapore's heritage districts without sacrificing half a day.
13. Explore Kampong Gelam in the evening
Kampong Gelam works very nicely later in the day.
Walk around the Sultan Mosque, Arab Street and surrounding lanes before finding somewhere for dinner.
Haji Lane becomes livelier in the evening, but don't restrict yourself to that single street.
The surrounding neighbourhood is the reason you're there.
14. Go for supper
Singapore dinner doesn't necessarily mean you've finished eating.
Supper is practically its own category.
Depending on where you're staying, you could finish your evening with prata, noodles, dim sum or whatever else seemed like an unreasonable idea until approximately 11:30pm.
One of the pleasures of Singapore is that finding food late at night generally isn't a heroic undertaking.
Your holiday calories are between you and Singapore. We are merely providing information.
15. Walk without an itinerary
This sounds suspiciously simple after fourteen recommendations, but some evenings don't need tickets.
Pick an area and walk.
Marina Bay for skyline views. Singapore River for the waterfront. Kampong Gelam for food and atmosphere. Chinatown for heritage streets and dinner. Orchard Road if shopping is the objective.
Singapore is generally straightforward to navigate, and some of your favourite moments may happen between the attractions you originally planned to see.
Best things to do in Singapore at night for couples
For couples, we'd lean towards Singapore River Cruise, Marina Bay waterfront, Gardens by the Bay, Cable Car + Sentosa, and dinner around Marina Bay or the Singapore River.
You don't necessarily need an explicitly romantic attraction.
Singapore provides a rather substantial amount of skyline lighting without requiring your assistance.
Best things to do at night with children
With children, we'd consider Garden Rhapsody, Spectra, Singapore River Cruise, Night Safari and Sentosa.
But watch the timing.
A Night Safari evening after an exhausting full-day itinerary can become considerably less magical when everyone is half asleep.
Build in an afternoon rest if necessary. Future You will be grateful.
What can you do in Singapore at night for free?
Quite a lot.
Some of our favourite free evening options include walking Marina Bay, seeing the Merlion after dark, Spectra, Garden Rhapsody, exploring Chinatown, walking around Kampong Gelam and the Singapore River waterfront.
You don't need to purchase a ticket every time the sun moves position.
What should you do if it rains?
Don't panic when the weather app displays thunderstorms.
Singapore's tropical rain can be intense without necessarily lasting the entire evening.
If rain does interfere with your plans, use indoor attractions, shopping centres or dinner as buffers and adjust your outdoor schedule afterwards.
For ticketed experiences, check the attraction's individual weather and cancellation policies rather than assuming rain automatically means cancellation.
What time does Singapore nightlife start?
There's no single answer because 'nightlife' here means several different things.
For sightseeing, we'd consider around 6pm onwards the beginning of your evening.
That gives you a chance to catch sunset before moving into the light shows and night attractions.
For bars, clubs and late-night entertainment, naturally things continue considerably later.
For food? Singapore will find a way.
One evening itinerary we'd actually recommend
5:00pm: Head towards Marina Bay and the Merlion.
Early evening: Explore the waterfront and Singapore River.
Evening: Take a Singapore River Cruise.
After the cruise: Head towards Marina Bay Sands for Spectra.
Later: Continue to Gardens by the Bay.
8:45pm: Watch Garden Rhapsody.
Afterwards: Finish with dinner or supper.
The exact timings should be adjusted around current show and cruise schedules. The important part is the order. You're moving through connected areas instead of repeatedly crossing Singapore.
Have two nights?

Night 1: Marina Bay + River Cruise + Spectra + Gardens by the Bay.
Night 2: Night Safari.
Have three? Night 3: Sentosa + Cable Car + evening attractions.
Now you've experienced three completely different versions of Singapore after dark.
